Mill Hill Farms is looking for orders on their wonderful wheat!
As we prepare for our spring planting of wheat, we need to know how much wheat you would like. We plant mostly soft white wheat and will grow only as much hard white wheat as we have orders for. So please let us know your hard white wheat orders by April 1. Also would appreciate your soft white wheat orders.
Soft white wheat when ground is light and fluffy and can be used in recipes that do not use yeast as the leavening agent; waffles, muffins, cakes, pancakes, desserts, brownies. You may also substitute 1 /3 of your total amount of flour in making bread with soft white wheat. This makes a lighter bread.
Hard white is a hybrid between soft white and hard red. It has the higher protein content of hard red, which makes for more gluten development, which is what you want for making yeast bread, but a milder, lighter wheat taste. Many home bakers prefer hard white to the older hard red variety for making bread.
Harvest will begin in August and the wheat will be available to pick up in late August.

Opening Prayer: By Invitation
Object: To help family members understand those things that have eternal value as compared to temporal or earthly objects.
Quote: ”It is obvious that treasures found in the world cannot give that which people hope for. Many people have to live an entire lifetime to find out in the end that with all the treasures and riches of the world they have gathered, they have not found the real treasure. They remain empty, unhappy, dissatisfied, and plagued with growing fears. The miracle of the only real treasure is that it constantly produces blessings and the overcoming of fears. I am speaking about the treasure of having found Christ,” (F. Enzio Busche, “ The Only Real Treasure,” New Era, Dec. 1979, 4). Directions: Copy the Celestial Cents page three times onto gold or yellow cardstock; copy the pot of gold, rainbow, and the scripture circles once each on plain white paper. Cut out the Celestial Cents and the scriptures and then glue the scriptures to the back of the Celestial Cents. Color and cut out the rainbow.
Cut out the pot of gold. Laminate the Celestial Cents, pot, and rainbow for durability, if desired.
Attach the pot of gold to the front of a sturdy paper bag or gift bag (one that is approximately six to eight inches wide works best). Attach the rainbow to the interior on the backside of the bag. Place the Celestial Cents in the bag. For directions, download activity attachments here. Lesson: Remind family members of the legend that great treasure can be found at the end of the rainbow. Explain that temporal or earthly treasures are very different from what Heavenly Father feels is most valuable. Show family members the special pot of gold. Explain that inside the bag are Celestial Cents, which give clues to what Father in Heaven treasures. Pull out one Celestial Cent from the bag, read the scripture, and determine with family members what item of value is being discussed. Repeat until all the Celestial Cent scriptures have been read.
Activity: Assign a monetary value to each of the Celestial Cents. Set a family goal for completing daily scripture study during the month. After each completed study session, reward the family with a Celestial Cent. At the end of the month add up the value earned and then spend it on a family outing for ice cream or another activity. Discuss with family members how this delayed reward is much like “laying up treasures in heaven” through obedience to the commandments.
